Device Setup

Overview

  • Survivor at Home takes place entirely online, so you can play from anywhere!

  • To participate, you will need access to a reliable computer with webcam and microphone, and your computer must be fast enough to load websites and videos quickly. You will also need a second device, which could be a computer, smart-phone, or tablet capable of using Zoom and Discord video calls.

  • Prior to the event, please install Zoom and Discord on both devices, and create an account with Discord (write down your password).

  • An email account and internet browser access are also required throughout the weekend.

  • Pro Tip: Fully charge your devices, and have a charger nearby. Running out of battery could be a 1 million dollar mistake!

Using Zoom

  • You probably know how to use Zoom by now, but make sure to play around with it before the event. For example, you should test the audio quality of your mic, and make sure that your connection doesn’t lag in the location where you are setup to play.

  • A link will be sent by production leading up to the event. Make sure to install Zoom on both devices.

Using Discord

  • Discord is a really cool app for virtual togetherness! What makes it unique (and perfect for Survivor at Home) is the ability to easily maneuver between conversations (called “channels” on Discord) - much like you would do at an in-person social event.

  • You will see numerous video chat rooms/channels that we have appropriately named based on Survivor, such as the Shelter, the Beach, the Well, etc.... To join a chat room, just click on it. You can just as easily click on another chat room to go there.

  • There is no limit to how many people can be in the same chat room at the same time.

  • While in a conversation, you can also view which chatrooms the other players are currently in (e.g. Rob and Sandra are at “The Beach”), and you can drop in to try to talk to them and build some alliances!

  • Before the event begins, we will do a test with you on Discord, but we also recommend you test it yourself!

  • Pro Tip: To have a chance of winning Survivor at Home, you have to make the most of this time on Discord. Be bold in asking others to have a word with you in a separate chatroom, jump into conversations to interrupt suspected alliances, and do not get caught alone for long out of a chat!

If you have any questions, or need help, please reach out before the event!
